My first trip to Ukraine

It wasn't my first trip abroad but it was first trip outside the European Union. Every year group of scouts from Poland travel to Ukraine, Lviv to deliver packages with food articles for Christmas Eve to poverty-stricken Poles. Last year I've decided to go with them. In Friday afternoon we were almost in Ukraine. But firstly we had to cross the border...

We have been waiting in the queue for almost half a day. Finally we approached to customs clearance. Customs officer got into the bus. In one moment there was a silence. I was a bit tensed, because a photo in my Passport was 8 years ago. The officer was verifying documents of other scouts. His attitude wasn't friendly. The closer he was the more I was uptight. I waited. After few minutes the officer stretched out his hand for my Passport. I gave it to him. He was verifying it very long. Too long! He asked me some questions about my personal data. I've answered it promptly. He asked for another document. I gave him my ISIC. He compared data on both documents. Abruptly he said “There is different date of birth”. Never was I so petrified. My friend told me to look for another document. With my hands shaking I pulled the school ID out of my wallet. Fortunately the data were in line with those in the Passport. I felt relieved.

After this event I changed my Passport straight away not to have so much stress in the future.
