Y van más allá: dicen que el enseñar el respeto a la diversidad es, por oposición, promover una orientación sexual y atentar contra los niños. La burocracia innecesaria es una excusa muy común que utilizan los funcionarios públicos —y también privados— cuando no quieren hacer algo por motivos ajenos a su función. El caso más reciente, que involucra al Sena y a un hombre trans, es una prueba más de cómo el país necesita mucha educación si es que en realidad quiere ser una sociedad incluyente. Lo curioso, sin embargo, es que ha tomado fuerza una oposición que siente amenazado el bienestar de los niños por algo que llaman “ideología de género”, y que no es otra cosa que decirles a los estudiantes de Colombia que la diversidad debe respetarse, no perseguirse. La semana pasada, la Corte Constitucional falló el caso de un hombre trans que le pidió al Sena que le permitiera utilizar el uniforme de los hombres. La institución educativa, sin embargo, le dijo que no podía porque en la cédula aún aparecía como mujer. ¿Desde cuándo los uniformes se entregan con cédula en mano? Y, más importante aún: ¿cuál es la utilidad, en el marco del derecho a la educación, que tiene inventarse ese obstáculo? Por supuesto, el alto tribunal dijo que el Sena estaba violando la Constitución al impedir el ejercicio del derecho al libre desarrollo de la personalidad y a la libre expresión de la identidad de género. Por eso, entre otras cosas, la Corte le ordenó a la institución que, en un plazo de seis meses, diseñe un plan que promueva el respeto y la promoción del derecho al libre desarrollo de la personalidad, particularmente sobre las expresiones de la identidad de género y la orientación sexual. Y sin embargo, a ese tipo de medidas es a las que se oponen ciertas personas argumentando que se trata de la imposición de una “ideología de género”. Miremos con lupa esa afirmación. Hablar de una “ideología” presupone que la situación es un debate entre posiciones políticas. Y van más allá: dicen que el enseñar el respeto a la diversidad es, por oposición, promover una orientación sexual y atentar contra los niños. Primero, en ningún momento, ni en la orden de la Corte ni en la política pública que está intentando implementar el Ministerio de Educación, se está sugiriendo que una orientación sexual es preferible a la otra. Lo único que se hace es educar a los profesores, directivos y estudiantes sobre cómo existen personas LGBT —porque existen, pese a que algunos siguen negándolo— y darles a conocer la importancia de crear ambientes educativos de respeto, porque la discriminación, que también se da en el colegio, cobra vidas. Que el matoneo existe para todos los estudiantes es cierto, pero también lo es que los estudiantes LGBT son sujetos de un marginamiento especial. Eso es lo que hay que entrar a corregir. Segundo, lo único que piden las personas trans es que se les reconozca su identidad, aspecto esencial de toda existencia, sin ningún obstáculo. Porque cuando a un hombre trans le piden cambio de sexo en la cédula para usar el uniforme que lo representa, eso no sólo le dice “tú aún no existes para nosotros”, sino que además faculta a sus compañeros y profesores a burlarse de él y maltratarlo por su identidad de género.
