Last week at work a client e-mailed and wanted a price quote for 10 boxes of chocolates. I gave told her that one box cost 10 Zloty, so ten boxes cost 100 Zloty. The client wrote back asking if I could give a discount for such a large order. I went to my boss and asked, “Can we give a discount to someone who orders ten boxes of chocolates?” My boss answered, “Go ask the client if he can come and pick it up or we should mail it to him.” So I e-mailed the client that if he can come and pick it up, then we could give him a discount. The client wanted to know how much it would cost if he came to pick up the chocolates and how much it would cost if we mailed them to him. So again I asked my boss, “How much of a discount can we give if he comes in person to pick up the chocolates?” My boss answered, “I never said that we could give a discount if he came to pick up the chocolates in person. I only asked about a question. I didn’t promise anything. Did you promise him something?” I admitted to my boss that I had promised the client a discount if he came to pick up the chocolates. My boss was not happy with me but he said that if I promised that I would have to keep my promise. He said that I should offer to sell the ten boxes of chocolates for 90 Zloty if the client came to pick them up. I apologized to my boss for my mistake and gave the client the message. I was very glad that my boss didn’t make me pay for the 10-Zloty difference. (299 slow)
