In the early 70 such bands as Deep Purple or Black Sabath had started to create something harder than rock music. They played  hard-rock music from which heavy-metal derives. First heavy-metal bands appeared in the 80. The metals doesn’t proclaim any special ideology or philosophy. The lyrics emphasize the cult of Satan, evil, totality of those negative powers. The interest of occultism and black magic causes that they are usually identified with Satanists. The ideology of this subculture is mostly based on rebellion against all pressure from the outside and on personal independence.  It also assume tolerance towards other subcultures.  In Poland the Metals are also often associated and blamed for Satanism because there is a small margin among them who do so.  Thinking of all this subculture in this category is unfair for the majority that doesn’t identify with the Satanists.  Heavy-metal fans wear clothes like old rockers did. Their style is: tight leather or jeans trousers, leather jackets- ramones, belts covered by brads (fondlings), t-shirts dominated by skeletons or other creepy characters. They have long hair that make an impression of being jerked.
