1. The authorities could do a lot to make my city more user-friendly for the disabled. We need better pavements, more lifts at bus stations, in shopping centres and other facilities, not so many stairs everywhere and help of building administrators for those, who are disabled and cannot leave their flats.
2. In my opinion it is very difficult. Many buses or trams are not suitable for the disabled - they have stairs instead of special platforms and they stop for a short time at a station, so a disabled person has a big problem to get on. Another problem is getting from home to a bus or tram stop - it is often far away.
3. Guide dogs are the 'eyes' of blind people. A guide dog is trained and helps a blind person to find their way, get from e.g. their home to a shop and back, find objects at home. A guide dog warns a blind person about dangers, e.g. a car coming. Apart from that, this dog is the best friend, so a disabled person is not lonely.
4. You can arrange rooms in a different way to help the disabled person move around. You can make furniture lower, redecorate the bathroom - build a special shower so that a disabled person can wash himself. You can also think about changing a flat from the higher floor to the ground floor. In this way a disabled person can leave his home without help.
5. Life must be much more difficult than the life of a healthy person. Every simple activity can become a problem. If you cannot stand up from a wheelchair, every activity may be a problem. If you are blind, you live in complete darkness and have to operate without this most important sense. Life is possible, even happy after some time, but first a person has to learn to live from the beginning.
6. People are often afraid of the disabled - they don't know, how to behave, talk to them, they feel embarrassed and avoid contact. It helps, if we treat the disabled in a normal way - but to do it, we have to know more about such people, get to know them, and this is something we cannot learn from books, but only be real contact with these people.
