I use smiley faces and emoticones quite often I communicate with my friends. There are a lot of emoticones. Some of the best known include :) which means that you're happy and :D which means that you're amused. I don't think smiley faces and emoticones can replace words in emails and text, because they can't express as much as words. There aren't enough emoticones to substitute all words.
