Paternal National Park - one of the 23 national parks in Poland, established in 1956. It is located in the Malopolska province, in the district of Krakow. It is located in the four municipalities: rock, Jerzmanowice-Przeginia, Great Village, Suloszowa. It includes part of the Krakow-Czestochowa Upland - Prądnik Valley and the Valley Sąspowską and adjacent parts of the Jurassic plateau. It is the smallest of the Polish national parks. Its symbol is a bat (bat ciliate).
In the nineteenth century, nature OPN suffered great losses - cut out all the stands, dug caves to extract fertilizer accumulated in them, breaking off rock formations. At the same time, however, there were made the first archaeological discoveries, the researchers described the rare species of plants and animals and the beauty of the Valley Prądnik attracted the first tourists. In the press, there were voices on the need to protect this unique natural places, and enlightened landowners and businessmen were trying to prevent further devastation of purchasing the land from the hands of the private. Amateur archaeologist John Zawisza began redemptions from Wroclaw traders who unscrupulously cut down forests, continued redemptions next owner John Krasinski, founded on the initiative of Adolf Dygasińskiego stock company bought the castle in Pieskowa, at the end of the nineteenth century, the museum was established in the region of the Fathers.
Efforts to protect wildlife Prądnik Valley have already taken place before World War II. The project to establish a nature reserve in the Valley Prądnik and Sąspowskiej was under the direction of prof. Wladyslaw already Botany in 1924. The initiative also developed his first monograph natural Prądnik Valley and the Valley Sąspowskiej and designed the first nature reserve, which according to the authors (Prof. Shepher and Eng. S. Richter) had used science as an area of research, and fortuitously for tourists visiting the site and for holiday-makers (...) a source of an unforgettable impression.
To create a reserve before World War II did not happen, and plans have begun to be implemented until 1953. Under the Council of Ministers of 14 January 1956 established Ojców National Park. He was sixth in the national park in Poland. In 1981 he established a protective zone around the OPN, created by the team of Jurassic Landscape Parks. After adjusting the 1997 border area of this zone is now 6,777 hectares.
