Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair in London, April 21, 1926. Her father was Prince Albert of York, later King George VI. Her mother was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of Claude Bowes-Lyon, 14 Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorn. Elizabeth was baptized in the Music Room at Buckingham Palace by Cosmo Lang, Archbishop of York. Her godparents were his grandfather, King George V and Queen Mary, his wife, Mary Windsor, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood, Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, grandfather, Lord Strathmore, and Mary Elphinstone, Lady Elphinstone.
The first name given by his mother, the second after his grandmother, Queen Alexandra, the third after his grandmother, Queen Mary. As a child she was called by his family, "Lilibet". She spent her childhood at 145 Piccadilly Road, home of the House of York. Her education dealt with the nanny, maid, later Queen, Margaret MacDonald, known as "Bobo". Elizabeth was an obedient child, but convinced of his high position and take care of its due importance. When in 1930 the future Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned to her Good morning, little lady, the princess replied: I am a little lady, I am the Princess Elizabeth. As the granddaughter of the reigning British monarch in the male line had the right to the title "Her Royal Highness." Its full title was: Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth of York. At the moment of birth came third in line of succession to the British throne, after his uncle, Prince of Wales, and his father. Although her birth was accompanied by public interest, was then very unlikely that Elizabeth inherited the throne of Great Britain.
The Prince of Wales, however, had no children, was not even married. Elizabeth had a brother who (though younger) wyprzedziłby it in line of succession to the throne. Elizabeth was only four years younger sister, Margaret.
In 1932 Elizabeth and her parents and sister ("the four of us" - as he said George VI) moved to the Royal Lodge in the park at Windsor Castle. A year later, the princess was entrusted education governess Marion Crawford, called "Crawfie". Elizabeth grew up with her sister in isolation, away from peers, which was supposed to protect Elizabeth from childhood diseases (for which, and so ill as an adult). Elizabeth, in which the governess saw "an unwavering sense of duty", she learned at a very simple program - history (to learn the greatness of Great Britain), geography (to learn the enormity of the British Empire) and the Bible. As heir to the crown will still learn the history of later state law.
Education program was modest and had its shortcomings. A few years before taking the throne of Elizabeth Bobo maid confided: At the table I do not understand what people are talking around me. I am overcome with horror at the thought of zasiadaniu among foreigners discussing the topics that are completely unknown to me. The future queen was a child, serious, organized and systematic. Sometimes her to get up out of bed in the evening to see if clothes in the closet are well placed. Also placed the candy in volume and ate them from smallest to largest [citation needed].
