Everybody likes to laugh but do we all have the same sense of humour? Saskia Murray asked a group of teenagers what made them laugh.
Many thirteen and fourteen-year-olds chose TV cartoons.Favourite cartoons were Tom and Jerry and The Simpsons. 'I can watch The Simpsons all day', says Simon,aged 14.Comedy films with animalslike Babe,Chicken Run and Cats and Dogs were also very popular.
One or two older teenagers were keen on the old silent Hollywood films of the 1920s.'I love slapstick',said Robbie,16,from Chester.'I can't help it but I always laugh when someone slips on a banana skin or gets wet or falls off a ladder.Some of the Charlie Chaplin and Laurel and Hardy films ale hysterical.'Not surprisingly boys and girls often liked different types of humour.Boys were keen on 'spoofs' like The Mask and Police Academy,whereas girls liked romantic comedies like Sleepless in Seattle and Four Weddings and a Funeral or TV situation comedies like Friends.Among the most popular comedy actors were Jim Carrey,Eddie Murphy,Meg Ryan and Steve Martin.'Some actors ale always funny',said Dave,15,from Cardiff.'It's the way they move their faces and say their lines.Stand-up comedians have the same gift.Every time they start to tell a joke,you're ready to laugh!
