Scena IV i V: Na bal do Kapuletich udaje się Romeo, Merkucjo i Benwolio. Romeo ma ponury nastrój, jednak udał się na ten bal, żeby móc popatrzeć na Rozalinę. Julia natomiast miała dokładniej przyjrzeć się Parysowi. Jednak plany zostały pokrzyżowane, gdyż Julia i Romeo zakochali się w sobie od pierwszego wejrzenia. Scena I i II: Romeo i Julia prowadzą w ogrodzie rozmowę, która mimo obaw z powodu kłótni obu rodów, prowadzi do postanowienia o potajemnym ślubie. Scena III: Romeo udaje się do ojca Laurentego. Po opowiedzeniu mu całej historii o swoich uczuciach do Julii, Romeo prosi ojca o udzielenie im potajemnego ślubu. Ojciec Laurenty zgadza się na to tylko dlatego, że widzi w tym szansę na pogodzenie zwaśnionych rodów. Scena IV-VI: Romeo przekazał dalszy plan działania Marcie, w którym to pod pozorem spowiedzi Julia miała udać się do celi ojca Laurentego. Ojciec Laurenty udziela ślubu dla Romea i Julii. Scena I : Romeo, próbując pogodzić dwójkę swoich przyjaciół Merkucja i Tybaltam, wdaje się w uliczną bójkę. W pojedynku tym zginął Merkucjo. Romeo czuje się winny śmierci przyjaciela, a pomszczenie jego to walka z krewnym żony i złamanie książęcego zakazu. Jeżeli nie zrobiłby tego to mógłby się okazać tchórzem. Między Romeem i Tybaltem dochodzi do walki, w której to Tybalt ginie. Książę skazał Romea za zabójstwo Tybalta na dożywotnie wygnanie, dlatego też bohater musiał uciekać. Scena II: Marta w rozmowie z Julią opowiada jej o tragicznych wydarzeniach, z których to wynika, że Tybalt był dobrym przyjacielem Marty. Julia z miłości do Romea usprawiedliwia jego uczynek. Dla Julii wygnanie męża jest równoznaczne ze śmiercią, jednak możliwość spotkania ją uspokaja. Scena III: Romeo dowiedziawszy się o rozpaczy żony próbuje popełnić samobójstwo w celi ojca Laurentego. Ojciec Laurenty znalazł rozwiązanie z całej sytuacji.
