Columbus was probably born in Genoa in the house at the Porta dell'Olivella, between 25 August and 31 October 1451 year. He was the son of Genoese weaver and small merchant, Domenico Colombo. As a young man, Columbus began to work from home banking Centurionich profession and, therefore, began sea voyages, sailing the local waters for commercial purposes (eg in 1475 on the island of Chios). In 1476 he sailed with the convoy probably Genoese merchant ships to Lisbon and Flanders, but near Cape St. Vincent Franco-Portuguese fleet attacked the convoy and broke it. Columbus miraculously saved as a survivor swam ashore near Lagos. After a few weeks he went to Lisbon. He began work at the bank branch Centurionich Lisbon. The commercial sailed on his first ocean voyages to England, to Madeira and Guinea. In 1479, Columbus married Felipa Moniz de Perestrello, the daughter of a former governor of Porto Santo, near Madeira islands. A year later they had a son, Diego Colón, and five years later Felipa died.
