He was one of the founding and active member of the secret patriotic Society Philomath, for which he was arrested along with a group of friends and imprisoned in Basilian monastery in Vilnius (1823-1824). Years 1824-1829 were spent in the central Russia, in Odessa, Moscow and St. Petersburg, where he entered the environment of a progressive elite Russian intelligentsia. In 1829 he went on a tour through Europe. Visited Germany, Switzerland and Italy, in Berlin, attended lectures by Hegel. He made numerous contacts in international artistic environment. After the November Uprising in 1830 unsuccessfully attempted to return to the country. From 1832 he lived in Paris, with a break for stay in Lausanne (1839), where he taught Latin literature, and in Rome (1848) where he tried to gain the support of Pope Pius IX for the so-called liberation movements. Adam Mickiewicz - given birth on 24 December 1798, zm. 26 November 1855 in Constantinopol. Of Poland poet. Regarded as one of the best poets of the Polish Romanticism. He wrote among others: "Dziady", "Pan Tadeusz", "Oda do młodości".
