Ditching classes can be a really serious issue and is, of course, against school relations. It can be motivated by stress that students associate with certain things in school, like tests. They believe that by not showing on given day they can somehow avoid their responsibility. Rarely they want to participate in something that is clashing with school hours (going to the cinema or on a trip not organised by school, to name just a two examples). Pupils are also entitled to have so called "bad day", not being connected with being sick, but just mildly under the weather. As an effect, they can't endure sitting in school for seven hours straight and know that they productivity would be of no value, so they decide to skip instead. Another reason can be that students feel somewhat bad at school- maybe they are bullied or feel like one teacher in particular is scaring them or making them uncomfortable. If that's the case, help is in order, and not forcing said child into going to school for appearances sake.
