I would like to write about adventure in a foreign country. Three years ago I was in a completely different country – in North Korea. This place is breathtaking. Closed to the world.

 

When my trip arrived to airport in Pyongyang, “personally bodyguards” were waiting for us on the ramp. They led us to the waiting room to wait for the bus to the hotel. I was bored, so I took my camera and I went out to take a breath and some photos and shoot short film. In few seconds bodyguard appeared screaming “No photos here, go back! No photos!”! I was really surprised, but he was speaking seriously. So we went back. You know what? He was really skinny. I was wondering how these skinny legs can hold that body.

 

When we was in the bus he was telling us about what North Korea really is, about that great country, where everyone are free, everyone has what they need, about beloved Dear Leader, about evil South Korea, Japan, United States. Evil because these countries want to destroy this socialist utopia. I really don’t know why I listened to this nonsense with such curiosity. Everyone knows that every day dies lot of people there because of famine, because mothers can’t feed their children, because of political persecution etc.

 

It was beautiful, sunny day. Tour manager was showing us beautiful views. He stopped talk when we passed through a village full of dirty children. Only little houses, mire and dirty children. Terrifying. I remember a movie in TV. Prison escapee from Yodok was telling about Yodok Prison. Once one man has been bitten by something. No one helped him. He lost his hand.

 

Throughout the trip I didn’t talk with an ordinary citizen of this country. They are banned from talking and looking at the foreigners. That’s sick. Even in my hotel room was a sign telling “OPENING WINDOWS PROHIBITED”. “This is crazy!” I thought and I opened a window for take a breath. What was next? Alarm, lights on me, bodyguards in my hotel room screaming something in Korean and… lock on the window. I don’t know how to explain what it really was, but bodyguard has bend something so hardly, so I couldn’t open the window anymore.

 

This is my story about adventure in North Korea, in my opinion the most crazy place in the world.
