In 1960, black college students initiated a wave of sit-in protest and King supported the student movement. Mass demonstrations culminated in the March on Washington on 28 August 1963. On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial King delivered his famous '' I Have a Dream '' speech.
The same year he got the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1964 thanks to President Kennedy broad civil rights for the Blacks were legislate by Congress. Four years later, on 4 april 1968, King was assassinated.
