If one day the Internet suddenly stops working, I'm sure people would panic. It will definitely cause a lot of problems in communication - no matter if it would be permanent or just temporary. I'm sure that if it turns out to be a permanent issue, sooner or later people would find an alternative to it, regarding how big part of our lives it was. However, it's not established yet, whether the Internet had such big of an impact on humanity as the press, TV and the radio did.

While it might not be an end of the world to some people, it's given that a lot of us would lose our main source of income. Since the Internet is not only a place for funny memes and a convenient communicator but also a place where i.a. stock and commerce took place. That could cause a lot of damage to the world's economy.
