1.I've had a great time travelling around Australia and I'm in the desert now. I'm staying in a place called Coober Peddy, which is a famous mining town.
I'm staying in a lovely hotel, and it's also the most unusual hotel I've ever been in. It's built into the side of a hill and a lot of it is underground! Its name is the Desert Cave Hotel, and it's like a huge cave with lots of tunnels. It has underground bedrooms,a games room, a cafe and even some shops. Most of the tunnel walls are the colour of the red sand of the desert and it's really beautiful.
It's not cold and wet like caves at home, but warm (about 25 degrees Celsius) and dry. It's a fantastic temperature after I've been outside in the hot desert sun. It's unusual for us but not for the people of Coober Peddy.A lot of them live in underground homes to escape the heat .
Lots of love - Tanya.

2.I'm not writing to you from my hotel bedroom because it's too cold. That's not because the heating isn't working at the moment ; it's because mu room is made out of snow and ice! I'm in a hotel in Lapland , and it's completely normal in every way except that you can sleep in its igloo.
Igloos are the ice houses the Inuit people of the Arctic Circle live in. This one quite big, with a circular room containing a bar made from ice from the lake near the hotel. There are doorways with heavy curtains going from this room to eight bedrooms. They're cold (-5stopni), but there are lots of bed covers and a very varm Arctic sleeping bag. Warm socks are a good idea , though!
I've slept in my ice bedroom for three night and I've had a good night's sleep each time. One of the best things is waking up in the morning and going straight to the sauna next door. After fifteen minutes in the sauna I'm ready for a really big breakfast.
Best wishes - Chloe
