Adam was born in 1798 in Zaosiu near Nowogrodek. He studied at the University of Vilnius, inter alia, under the direction of an excellent historian Joachim Lelewel. During his studies with friends founded the Secret Society of Philomath.
 
After graduation, he worked at the school poet of the district in Kaunas. There, he met his first love, Maryla Wereszczakównę. Mickiewicz debuted in 1822 issue of Ballads and Romances. Further work is part of the Forefathers. II and IV and Grazyna. In 1823 the poet was arrested for activities filomacką, convicted and sentenced to go into Russia
