on screens it provoked the appearance of this film shock. Not only from the reason exceptionally of explicit stages of murder and carrying the death sentence out, but also on account of the time, in which the "Brief film about killing" appeared. Because 1988 was a period of particularly increased discussions in our country about the sense of the "maximum sentence". The criticism and the audience treated the film of Kieślowski as the valid voice in this dispute.Telling voice oneself - how thought and a majority is judging reviewers - against "of felony in all the majesty of the law". The action of the film is in progress in Warsaw, 16 March 1987 Taxi driver Marian is cleaning his polonaise, is out-talking very young Beatkę, while the pregnant woman in vain is waiting for the taxi... Piotr is turning over final bar exams. He is inviting his girl to the cake shop in the European Hotel. Here also twenty-year-old Jacek which earlier didn't react to the brutal assault is stopping by, alone for fun caused a car accident, in a photographer's shop ordered the copy of removing his younger sister... After the exit from the cake shop he is getting Marian's taxi in. On outskirts of the city Jacek is overburdening the taxi driver with the sailing cord, all over what, when the one he is still betraying signs of life and is begging for mercy, cruelly is massacring. He is eating Marian's sandwich calmly, and on his return to the city is inviting into the car Beatkę... In spite of the defenceOf Piotr, sentenced Jacek is staying for the capital punishment. During preparations for the execution Piotr has the last vision with Jacek. The one asks him to pass ordered taking the sister on to the mother. Perhaps, if not for her tragic death, he wouldn't leave the village and his life would go by differently. Led out of the cell of the ox with despair: "I ask you, I don't want!"... Somewhere in the forest behind the city Piotr isn't able to choke back his sobs. the "Brief film about killing" is amazing with the harshness, not to say - with asceticism of the form. To the first plan only three elements are making a mark in it: murdering the taxi driver, carrying the death sentence out and the view of reality, in which that's all is held. There is no analysing the personality for the murderer, of lengthy court scenes. There is a felony "in the pure state" - mercilessly stripped of fictional delusion. He is dirty, gloomy and dark like from the Kafkaesque nightmare world, in a masterly fashion created by Sławomir Idziaka. Therefore work of Kieślowski often compares itself to the shout. Short, but desperate, paralysing. The film not only in Poland met with the enthusiastic reception, but also in Europe. He became an event at the festival in Cannes, consolidated the international fame of Krzysztof Kieślowski which were started comparing from so artistic with "giants", as Bergman. One from this way he encouraged French critics of one's readers for watching the "Brief film about killing": "discover this great director! Without a doubt of the most outstanding Polish director of the eighties ".
