La literatura contemporánea o movimiento contemporáneo comprende todas las manifestaciones literarias que se han producido desde la posmodernidad. Se define por un periodo pero también por su estilo muy particular. La mayoría de los académicos denominan literatura contemporánea a toda producción literaria después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, en la década de 1940.

Durante la dos primeras décadas, la literatura contemporánea compartió espacios con el Modernismo, conservando ciertos rasgos como, por ejemplo, enfocarse en los personajes más que en la trama.
En su desarrollo posterior hasta los años 90, lo contemporáneo cambió hacia la descripción de realidades duras. Asimismo, centró su atención en la exposición de problemas psicológicos como la exclusión y la soledad.
