Everybody loves to get a new friend request when they're on their social networking site. You usually think, Oh great. I wonder who this is from. Imagine the surprise that Louise Royston, of Enfield, north London got when she checked a request she received one day las week. It was from her mother!

Every day more and more mums and dads join Facebook, and generally, they don't want to be friends with people of their own age. They want to be friends with their children. Some parents want to be involved because they're worried that social networking isn't safe, but others just want to know more about their kids. The pupils in Year Ten at Enfield High School all had something to say on the subject. I love my mum and dad-I just want some parts of my life to be private. But not because I'm doing anything wrong, said Ben. I decided to accept my dad as a friend said Vicky. But he can only see some of my profile, not all of it. I want to chat to my friends in private, said Tim. If your mum's a friend, it's like she's listening at your bedroom door when your friends are round. Now there are new Facebook groups you can join, with names like, Keep parents out and Parents? Not here, thanks. They are very popular, and they show that young people have strong feelings about this. Louise Royston speaks for thousands of young Facebook members when she says, It's OK if my mum wants to be on Facebook and she can have a thousand friends if she likes.
