Tsunami of Asian Sudeste, 2004On 26 December 2004 a magnitude 9 earthquake struck, with an epicenter 120 kilometers west of Sumatra. The earthquake caused a series of devastating tsunamis along the shores of the Indian Ocean, killing about 230,000 people.
Haiti Earthquake, 2010On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7 earthquake occurred 15 kilometers from the capital, Port-au-Prince. The earthquake, and a series of replicates of magnitudes between 5 and 6 on the Richter scale, killed more than 316,000 people, and 350,000 were injured. Perhaps this is the worst natural catastrophe of the 21st century, because it occurred in the poorest country in America, and until today has not been fully recovered.
