In the past, scientists always believed that chimpanzees were the most intelligent animals in the world. But now many scientists think that dolphins are more intelligent than chimpanzees. They've got large brains - some dolphin brains are bigger than human brains. And like humans, dolphins have personalities, for example they can be funny or serious, lazy or hard-working.
It's easy to train dolphins. They learn very quickly, and one dolphin can teach tricks to other dolphins, for example walking on its tail. But most scientists now think that it's wrong to keep dolphins in zoos or train them to do tricks.
Dolphins are very friendly animals. They often swim next to boats. They sometimes help swimmers or surfes in trouble in the sea. When sharks are near, they sometimes swim in a circle around the swimmer to protect him or her.
