In June 1963 a woman travelled into space for the first time in history. She was a Russian woman, Valentina Tereshkova. She completed some experiments and she stayed in space for three days. Her space craft landed in Kazakhstan. She never returned to space.

In 1994 a woman walked to the South Pole for the first time. She was Liv Arneson from Norway. She completed the walk in 65 days. She was walking for eight hours every day and she stayed in her tent every night. She planted a flag at the south pole.
