Vincent van Gogh was born on the 30th of March 1853 in the city of Zundert, Netherlands. He was an impressionist painter who is among the most famous people in the history of Western art. He started painting when he was a child. In the later years, he worked as an art dealer and travelled often. He then turned to religion, but because of bad health and loneliness he took up painting as his job in 1881. He used to paint landscapes, still life, portraits and self-portraits, all of which were painted with bold colours and impulsive brushwork. His painting style became famous after his death. He commited suicide on the 29th of July 1890, at the age of 37, followed by many years of mental illness and poverty, partly spent in psychiatric hospitals.
