1.you need a ruler.you know that your brother has got a spare ruler.you ask him for a ruler.
2.tell each other about stationery items you like and you don't like

You: Oh no, I need a ruler for this task..
B(Brother): What's wrong?
You: Oh, Brother. Can I borrow your ruler? I need it for my task.
B: Sure, here you go.
You: Thanks. By the way, Brother. What kind of stationery items do you like?
B: I'm not so sure... Well, I like my pen I guess?
You:Why?
B: Because it's very useful to write things.
You: I see. Pen is my favorite stationery item too! I also like pencils
B: No, I don't like pencils.
You: Why? Pencil is useful when you want to draw something
B: Well, you have to sharpen it again every time it got blunt.
You: How about papers? You surely need papers!
B: They're kinda okay I guess
You: 'Okay'?
B: Sometimes paper can gives you a paper cut. And that really hurts!
You: But we all need papers! And books too!
B: I still like papers if it's in a book. How about that ruler?
You: It's useful enough to do my task
