f(x)^2-1 = 4x^2 + 4x
f(x)^2 = 4x^2 + 4x + 1
f(x)^2 = (2x+1)^2
f(x) = 2x + 1


f(x-2) = 2(x-2) + 1
= 2x - 4 + 1
= 2x - 3
