An ancient capital Chan Chan is an old city near the sea in Peru. Today, there are only ruins and nobody lives there. But from 850 to 1470, it was the capital of the Chimu Empire. In those days, it was a very big and important city. In the 1400s, there were about 50,000 people in Chan Chan. There were about 10,000 buildings with ten very big palaces. These palaces were the homes of the Chimu kings. They were amazing buildings with very big walls. Inside the palaces, there were kitchens and many different rooms, gardens, streets and temples. There were beautiful pictures on the palaces' walls, and you can see some of these pictures today.
