A lot of you may have heard about Leo Tolstoy's masterpiece, one of the central works of world literature. Maybe you have even saw one of many adaptations, but you may have missed the newest adaptation of 'War and Peace'. Some critics had even the courage to call it the greatest period drama in the last decade, and probably the most beautiful cast with great acting skills.
War and Peace is a story of several families of Russian aristocracy, lost, fallible, corrupt, and yet full of love, hope and faith in greatness of Russia. As the Russian conflict with Napoleon reaches its peak, they face some new problems. Andrzej Bołkoński dealing hopelessness of life, played by amazing James Norton who perfectly shows all the transformations, or young Natasha looking for her one true love, at once won the hearts of viewers. But 'War and Peace' has even more to offer. The amazing role of Paul Dano as Pierre Bezuchow showing us his amazing calmness in accepting the hardships of life. 'War and Peace' is more than just intrigues or love. Amazing battle scenes and seeing the conflict with Napoleon form another, Russian side is a huge advantage of the series.
But is not only for plot, ability to see psychological depth of the characters, or amazing performances of a talented cast. The cinematography is just stunning, beautiful close-ups, impressive symmetry and incredible costumes (who doesn't love a man in uniform, or a girl in the most beautiful dress you have ever seen?). All in all, this in fact is one of the best dramas BBC has ever launched.
