De esta forma, podemos utilizar cualquier unidad y añadirle delante cualquiera de los prefijos que hemos visto, por ejemplo si la unidad es el metro podemos utilizar kilometros, nanometros, etc... o si la unidad es el gramo, podríamos usar teragramos o femtogramos. Sin embargo el valor a representar cambia en base al factor que aparece en la tabla para el prefijo que utilicemos.
Si continuamos con nuestro ejemplo de la distancia entre la tierra y el sol, podemos comprobar que la unidad que estamos utilizando son metros. Para hacer la medida de la distancia, podríamos emplear cualquiera de los múltiplos y el valor será más pequeño. Si utilizamos el prefijo mega:
Distancia Sol y Tierra = 149.600.000.000 metros = 149.600 megametros.
Pero, ¿Cómo hemos hecho la conversión entre metros y megametros?
Conversión entre múltiplos y submúltiplos
Cuando queremos convertir el valor de una unidad entre prefijos, debemos hacer lo siguiente:
Miramos el factor del prefijo desde el que queremos convertir y lo llamamos A (si no tiene prefijo, A valdrá 1).Miramos el factor del prefijo al que queremos convertir y los llamamos B (si no tiene prefijo, B valdrá 1).Multiplicamos el valor de la unidad por A y el resultado lo dividimos por B.
Por ejemplo, si queremos convertir 5 hectómetros en kilómetros.
