One Laptop Per Child
It looks more like a toy than a computer,but it really is a laptop-and it's a very good one,too.Today there are two billion children in the developing world and many will never go to school and one third of them will not finsh years 5.They won't find good jobs and they will live in poverty.
OLPC is working hard to bring computers to these children so that their education and futures will be better.
How will the XO laptop help ?
1.The laptop will be cheaper than other computers ($150),so schools and families will be able to buy them.
2.There will be a special wireless connection between all XO laptops,so people without an Internet connection will be able to communicate.
3.The design of the laptop will be great for the developing world.Water and sand won't be able to get into the laptop.
4.It won't use a lot of electricity and the battery will work for two hours.
5.Because they will be cheap,many people around the world will want to buy one for children in the developing world.
