Benito Juárez His complete name was Benito Pablo Juárez García. He was born on March 21st, 1806 in San Pablo Guelatao, Oaxaca. His parents were Marcelino Juárez and Brigida García. When he was 4 years old his parents died and he lived with his grandparents. Some years later, he moved to live with his uncle Bernardino Juárez. While his uncle was working, he took care of hens, turkeys, cows and sheeps.
He spoke Zapoteca like his family. His uncle also spoke spanish so when he finished his work, he taught him the spanish alphabet. He moved to the city because she wanted to learn and go to school. When he was 12 years old, he traveled to the city to find his sister María Josefina. She asked her boss to leave him living there. There he met Antonio Slanueva, who taught him to work and he sent him to school. In 1827 he started to study to be a lawyer and in 1834 he presented his exam in “La Corte de Justicia del Estado”. First, he was congressman in Oaxaca state and in 1847 he was governor of the state. Finally, from 1858 to 1872 he was the Mexico President. He died when he was 66 years old on July 18th, 1872.
