1.Parrots are found on all tropical and subtropical continents including Australia and Oceania, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central America, South America and Africa. Some Caribbean and Pacific islands are home to endemic species. By far the greatest number of parrot species come from Australasia and South America.

2.Parrots usually form permanent pairs, remaining together throughout their life. Their nests are usually in holes in the degraded rocks and they are using them for many years.

3.Appearance

The parrot's head is massive and of similar shape for all parrots.

Parrots have strong, hooked beak. Its upper part (upper jaw) is movably connected with the skull. While climbing the nose serves to cling. The tongue is thick and meaty.

The legs are short, ending with four fingers: two internal facing forward and two outer facing to the rear. Owing to this, the parrot can climbing very well.

The skin of legs is covered with thick, horn scales and on the bottom of finger firmly thickened.

The wings of parrots are strong and usually rounded.

It allows to fast flight, but not for long journeys.

Parrots tail consists of 12 tail feathers and may be ending in differently.

4.Food

The diet of parrots consists of seeds, fruit, nectar, pollen, buds, and sometimes arthropods and other animal prey. The most important of these for most parrots are seeds; A foot is sometimes used to help holding large seeds in place. The lories are primarily nectar and pollen consumers, and have tongues with brush tips to collect this source of food, as well as some specialised gut adaptations to accommodate this diet. Many other species also consume nectar as well when it becomes available. In addition to feeding on seeds and flowers, some parrot species prey on animals, especially invertebrate larvae.

5.Frequently bred parrots in the world are coming from Australia, budgies (Melopsittaccus undulatus).

There are many colorful varieties of them.

Budgies are often the real stars of competitions at shows birds. Also popular parrot, coming also from Australia is nymph (Nymphicus hollandicus).

There are also bred African lovebirds (Agapornis) and South American amazons (Amazona).

Bird lovers especially like the lories because as representatives of many of its 54 species are very colorful. Even within the same species there is great variation in coloring, which is clearly visible at least 22 subspecies of the Rainbow Lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus): their only common feature is the greenish color of the upper part of body.

One of the reasons why parrots are so popular is their remarkable talent for voice modulation. Many parrots can imitate human speech or other sounds.

Parrots don't have vocal cords, so sound is accomplished by expelling air across the mouth of the bifurcated trachea. Different sounds are produced by changing the depth and shape of trachea. African Grey Parrots of all subspecies are known for their superior ability to imitate sounds and human speech. This ability has made them prized as pets from ancient time to the present.

Parrots are almost famous for the fact that in captivity they can live to a ripe old age: it is known that an African gray parrot (Psittaccus erithacus) survived 50 years, and many cockatoos reaches more than 100 years old.
