Boleslaw Prus, responsible. Sam Clemens (1847-1912) - Polish novelist, journalist and novelist of the period of positivism.
Boleslaw Prus was born on August 20, 1847, in Hrubieszow. Early lost his parents, he grew up with relatives in Pulawy and Lublin. There, he enrolled in the School of Real. In 1861 he moved to Siedlce and lived with his brother Leo, who after graduating from philology at the University of Kiev, where he worked as a teacher. Under his influence Boleslaw Prus involved in underground activities. After moving to Kielce left school and joined the insurgent branch. He took part in the uprising. In September 1863, he was wounded and taken to hospital, and shortly afterwards in prison. Judgment of the military court, was sentenced to deprivation of nobility and put under the care of his uncle. After leaving prison, he finished secondary school in Lublin and enrolled at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Warsaw School of Economics. Due to financial difficulties had to stop school and work. He worked as a tutor, a worker in a factory, he tried his hand as a journalist.
He made his debut in 1864 in "Our Sunday Courier '. Initially dealt with correspondence and writing humorous sketches. In 1872, posted in "Niwa" popular science article on electricity. He dreamed of scientific work, which is why his columns for "Domestic Guardian" is not treated seriously by signing them Boleslaw Prus name. He also worked with magazines such as "Fly", "spikes", "Warsaw Courier", "Athenaeum". Writing essays and working as a cashier in a bank Boleslaw Prus allowed for financial stability. In 1875 he married Octavia Trembińską. In the same year he started in "Warsaw Courier" cycle "Weekly Chronicles", which has become a recognized journalist. In 1882, he became the editors Boleslaw Prus "news". He wanted to have appeared in a scientific way contemporary social problems. These plans, however, ended in failure.
His literary talent Boleslaw Prus revealed in 1879 in the short story "The Adventures of Stas'. In parallel to the work of journalistic activities developed and worked on his own fictional literary theory, in which he devoted special attention to the composition of the novel. Also involved in social activities: attended, among others. in organizing the Assistance Fund for Writers and Journalists Association and the Association of Practical Hygiene. Boleslaw Prus workers work for the destitute, and sponsored a number of shares and social institutions, took an active part in the international literary life. The interest in social issues was also evident in the works of fictional Prusa. His songs tell the story of ordinary people, meeting their injustice, social conflicts. Boleslaw Prus also moved the political and patriotic themes.
The years 1885-1897 were filled with a lot of success writing Prusa. The magazine, with whom he has worked as a journalist, appeared in his numerous novels, short stories and novels. Many of them were subsequently published in the edition of a book. The greatest achievement of the then-novel writer were "facility", "doll", "emancipated" and "Pharaoh", after the completion of which the author went to Germany and France in his only trip abroad.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, Boleslaw Prus fell sick, his work from this period and does not provide quite as great artistic value. Still, Prussia remained a social activist and publicist. He died of a heart attack May 19, 1912 in Warsaw. On his grave at Powazki reads: "Heart of hearts". It is a reflection of the great sensitivity of Boleslaw Prus to human harm, his work for the general interest and passion for social activist.
