The Quinquatria was a popular Roman festival in honour of the goddess Minerva (goddess of warriors, medicine and crafts). It was celebrated on March 19th. The Romans honoured the goddess Minerva with five days of festivities.

*On the first day, there were offerings of food and flowers for the goddess *During the next three days, gladiators fought in the amphitheatre

*On the last day, there was a procession through the streets of the city

*Minerva was the patron of teachers and students, so they had a holiday for Quinquatria. At the end of the holiday, when they returned to class, students gave presents to their teachers

*During this festival, the goddess purified the arms and trumpets of the soldiers, and their horses
