My Favorite Sport

 

My favorite sport is football, which, in my opinion, is a fun and interesting activity. Even as a small child, I used to play it with my friends. I play when I can afford the time. It is great to meet friends, destress, and chase after the ball, all the time having a great time. I always watch the games, and if possible, I travel to watch them. 

 

Matches are played on a rectangular field that is 45-90 metres wide and 90-120 metres long (international games are played on a field of 45-75 metres by 100-110 metres). The two shorter lines are called the goal line, while the two longer ones the side lines. On opposite sides of the pitch, in the middle of the goal lines stand the goal posts. The distance between the two inner goal posts are 7.32 m, and the distance between the ground and the inside of the top goal post is 2.44 m. 

 

The game is played with a ball, whose circumference must not be smaller than 68 cm or bigger than 70 cm, and whose weight is  between 410 and 450 grams. At the start of a match, the inside pressure of the ball must be between .6 and 1.1atmospheric pressure (600-1100 g/sq cm), measured at sea level. 

 

A football team consists of 11 players, including the goalkeeper. The team may also have up to 7 substitute players. The personal information of all players must be written in the referee's report, which is to be handed over to the referee before the start of the game. During the game, the team may substitute as many players as the playoff rules allow. A substituted player may not play again. 

 

No other sporting event on earth engages peope's imagination like the World Cup. Since the birth of the championship, people from every continent have crossed the globe to support their teams and to participate in the unusual atmosphere of the championship from Australia, through Argentina and Canada, to China. Crossing international borders, millions of people worldwide join together in pursuit of a common passion. For 90 minutes, political differences are set aside, while the fans delight in the performance that unrolls in front of their eyes.

 

It does not matter whether someone is young or old, rich or poor; that is why it is football that is the people's game and the Wold Cup is the best proof of it. People watch football everywhere. Even if they have to get up at 5 am to get the best seat, let it be. It is worth the sacrifice. All it takes is the ball in the goal and everyone is celebrating. It does not matter what continent one is on, football has long been a religion for many. One must admit that it is impossible not to be enthralled by the excitement surrounding the World Cup. 

 

Historically, there have been two cups. The first one was won by Brazil for having won the World Championships three times. The Golden Nike made it to the headquarters but was stolen 13 years later. Only a copy was left behind in the cabinet. The second cup was designed by Silvio Gazzanighia of Italy. The current cup is 36 cm tall and weighs almost 5 kg. It is made of pure gold. Only 8 countries have won it: Uruguay, Italy, Germany, Brazil, England, Argentina, France, and Spain. The player who scores the most number of goals in the world championship  receives the Golden Boot award.

 

The best thing is that football is an unpredictible sport because sometimes a weaker team may beat a stronger team. My favorite team is Manchester United. I cheer for them from all my heart, of course not forgetting about the Polish team.

 

Doing sport allows me to stay in good shape and to improve my mood. I encourage all to spend their free time actively. It is really a useful and joyful way to spend time.
