The Tower of London
I will talk about the Tower of London. It’s one of the best and the most interesting attractions of London. The official name is Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress. It’s located on the northern bank of the Thames. It is surrounded by several rows of walls and the old trough of the moat. It measures up to thirty meters and the thickness of the walls is 3.6 meters.
The central part of the fortress is the White Tower which was built in the twelfth century. Important part of the Tower of London is Jewel House where royal jewels lie. There is Traitors Gate, too.
The Tower of London was built in 1078 for William the Conqueror. It is the symbol of his power. It was a defensive structure and the palace of the rulers of England. Formerly, there was located a prison, a fortress, a palace, a treasury, and even a zoo.
The Bishop of Durham was probably the Tower's first distinguished prisoner, but he escaped. The people executed or imprisoned at the Tower were Queen Elizabeth I, Anne Boleyn, Sir Thomas More and Lady Jane Grey. The last of the kings of England, who used it was James I.
Today, we can see there weapons, armor, paintings, jewelry and crown jewels (Queen Elizabeth’s crown, Crown of Imperial State and Edward’s crown). There are scepter with the largest diamond in the world and the royal crown with second largest diamond in the world. This place is inhabited by the Yeomen Warders guards and their families, a chief of the fortress, officials, a chaplain and a doctor. Legend says that as long as ravens will live in the towers of the building so long will last the British Empire. Ravens were associated with this place from the beginning.
Nowadays The Tower of London is a museum. It is open everyday.
Właściwie to poprawnie, jedynie dwie drobne literówki (northern, measures) i w zdaniu Jewel House where are royal jewels. zastąpiłbym na where royal jewels lie.
