Se los clasifica a la URSS y a Estados Unidos como "superpotencias" debida a su capacidad de proyectar poder e influenciar a cualquier parte del mundo.

Nace con la mision de mantener paz y seguridad internacional, desarollar relaciones amistables entre los paises y conseguir cooperacion internacional.

Los dos organismos creados de los acuerdos de Bretton Woods fueron el Fondo Monetario Internacional (FMI) y el Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Fomento (BIRF).
