*sztuka miała charakter sakralny.
* w pierwszym okresie tego stylu były budowane Kościoły na planie koła, inaczej rotundy, a potem krzyża.
*budowle miały system nawowy, czyli nawa głowna i dwie nawy boczne, które były zakończone poprzecznym transeptem, a także prezbiterium, gdzie znajdował się chór i absydą skierowaną na wschód.
*układy świątyń miały charakter halowy, lub bazylikowy.
*mury były grube, masywne, nadawały budowlom charakter obronny.
*sklepienia miały charakter :kolebkowy, beczkowy, krzyżowy lub płaski, najczęściej takie znajdowały się w światyni halowej.
*okna budowane były stosunkowo niewielkie, wzmocnione dodatkowo wewnętrznymi kolumnami.

Filozofia Świętego Tomasz z Akwinu głosiła harmonijną sytuację istoty ludzkiej w świecie.
