The last school celebration that I participated in

 

At the end of the year, there is always a holiday party at my school. We celebrate Christmas, the end of the calendar year, and the upcoming winter break. It is always a joyous time.

The school is decorated according to the season. The school erects a big Christmas tree, which the students decorate. Each class is allowed to contribute to the decoration. This custom increases the students’ pride in the school and lifts their spirits. All the classrooms get decorated as well. Students make their own decorations either at home or in class and hang them on the walls and around windows and doors.

The schoolmaster calls a school assembly as part of the formal celebration. Typically a group of students acts out a play. This year it was of the Three Kings. The rest of the students cheer them on. Everyone participates in singing Christmas carols. I enjoy listening to hundreds of voices singing beautiful songs.

Individual students also exchange small Christmas gifts. Sometimes these gift exchanges are organized by the homeroom teacher; other times they are organized privately by friends. In my class, the teacher had all students pull their classmates’ names out of a bag and we had to buy a present for that classmate. This is a small but lovely way to celebrate the holidays.

Holidays are my favorite times of the year, and they are definitely my favorite part of the school year.
