-Nowadays many young people think that the only condition to become mature is to be 18 years old. They consider that when you’re 18 you can do whatever you like because you’re finally allowed to. That type of thinking appears very often but it’s not right because being mature doesn’t mean only to be 18 and many people forget about other important things that are connected with real maturity.

-A good example of immature behavior is driving under the influence of alcohol. That happens every day and it refers to ones who are 18 but also older. In situations like that, when someone does something irresponsible that can take somebody else’s life away, we can’t tell that the driver behaved like a mature person and it doesn’t matter if he was 18 or not.

-Another situation that proves that not every 18 year-old is mature is when a person shows no respect to younger people and tells them that he or she is better because of the age. That person sometimes does many things that younger people are not allowed to do like smoking or drinking lots of alcohol just to show that now he or she is allowed to do anything.

-In both of the situations we see people who use their new possibilities connected with being 18 but they don’t behave maturely. And we also have to remember that it’s not the age but our decisions, what makes us really mature. And we can’t achieve full maturity without being responsible and smart enough to choose between wrong and right.
