About thirty years ago, a group of men in the American town of Falmouth, Pennsylvania, were talking about horse-racing. One of the men, John Devaney, liked horse-racing but he wasn't very lucky. In fact, he often lost money. One of his friends suggested that he might have more luck with goats! As a joke, another member of the group organised a goat-racing event – and it became a tradition. Now 'Goat Race Day' takes place every year in Falmouth, and the tournament attracts competitors from lots of different towns in the area. The goats have to complete a special course – with the help of their owners. And if you haven't got your own goat, you can rent one. There are other events on the same day, including a type of rodeo for children: they have to sit on a sheep's back for as long as possible before falling off!
