WE SEE CALIFORNIA ON TELEVISION AND IN FILMS ALL THE TIME, BUT WHAT IS IT REALLY LIKE? IT IS ALL SUN AND FUN? GEORGE TELLS ALL ABOUT LIFE IN CALIFORNIA.

Who lives there?

Some people think that everyone in California is tall, blond and thin. That isn’t exactly true. California is an international place full a different kinds of people from all over the world. There are families from China, Europe, Africa, Mexico, Japan and many other places. California borders Mexico, so 35% of the people who live there speak Spanish.

Life’s beach.

The weather in California is hot and sunny, so people spend a lot of time at the beach. They go swimming, surfing and sunbathing. There are lots of beaches to choose from. Jugglers, musicians and acrobats all perform on Venice Beach, which makes it popular with young people!

Hit the shops!

Rodeo Drive is the place to shop in California. It is where to rich and famous like to shop. It is full of expensive designer clothes and jewellery stores. Tourists love to visit Rodeo Drive too, as they hope to see Angelina Jolie or maybe Will Smith doing their shopping.

Hooray for Hollywood!

Lots of successful actors and actresses live in Hollywood. They live in luxurious houses and go to film premieres and parties. Hollywood is not as much fun for everyone, though. Many people move there to try and become famous. Most of them work as waiters or shop assistants waiting for their big chance, but others can’t find a job and have to go back home.
