jumlah akar-akar :
a + b = -(p+3)/1 = -(p+3) ... (1)
hasil kali akar-akar :
ab = (2p+2)/1 = 2p+2 ... (2)
karena a = 3b, maka pers (1) dapat dinyatakan sbg :
a + b = -(p+3)
3b + b = -(p+3)
4b = -(p+3)
b = -(p+3)/4
dan pers (2) menjadi :
a b = 2p + 2
3b(b) = 2p + 2
3b² = 2p + 2
3(-(p+3)/4)² = 2p + 2
3(p² + 6p + 9)/16 = 2p + 2
3p² + 18p + 27 = 16(2p + 2)
3p² + 18p + 27 = 32p + 32
3p² - 14p - 5 = 0
(3p + 1)(p - 5) = 0
p = -1/3 atau p = 5
karena p adalah bil asli, maka solusi p yg mungkin hanyalah p = 5
