Road cycling race Tour de Pologne is the most prestigious Polish sporting event, the 84-year tradition. Tour de Pologne played for the first time was in September 1928. Then at the start of 71 riders faced. The first edition of the race was organized in Warsaw Cyclists Association and the newspaper "Sport Review". Race from the very beginning has become one of the biggest sporting events of interwar Polish. The tradition of the race was revived after World War II, in 1947. By 1992 it was organized as an amateur race.

In 1993, in the history of the Tour de Pologne opened a new chapter. Olympic silver medalist in 1980, a precursor of Polish professional cycling - Czeslaw Lang, has invested in a failing party's own financial resources. In a short time it became a world-class event. In the race among the professional teams that took part in the Tour, the stars began to appear in international cycling, such as Maurizio Fondriest, Paul Tonkow, Peter Lutenberger, Adriano Baffi, Andy Hampsten, Marco Pantani, Yevgeny Bierzin, Dmitry Konyszew, Marcus Zberg, Jens Voigt Peter van Petegem, Tom Steels, Jaan Kirsipuu, Alexander Vinokourov, Chris Boardman, Stuart O'Grady, Danilo Di Luca, as well as the best Polish players - Zbigniew Spruch, Zenon and Dariusz Baranowski Jaskuła.

In subsequent years, the race moved up in the hierarchy of the UCI in 2004 with a class 2.2. In the 2005 Tour de Pologne was in the ProTour series, is the only event of its kind in the countries of Central and Wschodniej.W 2011 years Tour de Pologne was included in the UCI World Tour calendar, which brings together 14 of the biggest stage races in the world.
