What sort of gadgets you couldn`t live without and why?
I definitely couldn’t live without my mobile. Being ‘out of range’ nowadays means no social life.
How do you prefer to spend your holiday, on your own or with other people?
Unless you are a bit of a loner, you need your friends, the more the better, to enjoy the holiday.
How often and when do you use modern technology to study?
I do it all the time. I use on-line dictionaries, information sources like Wikipedia and e-mail to communicate with my class mates and teachers.
Have you ever been abroad? Would you like to go?
Yes, a lot of times. I’ve been on a holiday in UK, recently. I fell in love with British culture and would definitely like to go there again.
What can you do when you have the flu?
I usually read a lot, trying to catch up with latest authors and titles.
How often do you use your mobile phone? What for?
I never leave my house without it. I’m in constant contact with my friends and family. I can send and receive e-mails, call them or just send a text message whenever there is a need for it.
Have you ever taken part in a sport competition? Would you like to?
I used to attend tennis lessons at the local sports centre when I was like 12 or so. I took part in two or three local tournaments, unfortunately with no major achievements. Now I do not have time for sport.
How often do you use a computer? What for?
On daily basis. I write my homework in Word, prepare presentations in PowerPoint and use the internet to communicate with my friends and family.
Are you afraid of the dentist? Why?
I think everyone is. It’s just the matter of those noises that the tools make. It actually does not hurt a bit.
What technical innovation is the most useful for you? Why?
Internet! Imagine a world without e-mails and free access to news and information from all over the world. I can’t.
What is the best transport for you? Why?
Cycling is the best. No question about it. I don’t care about traffic jams, can take a lot of shortcuts and it helps to kip fit.
Do you often use the Internet to communicate with your friends?
All the time! E-mails, instant message communicators and social networks – I can’t live without them. You could say I am a bit addicted to internet.
What sports can you play outdoors?
I love mountain biking. Weekends in Wisla or Ustron, up in the mountains, on a bike, with lots of friends. This makes my days!
What do you think is the most popular sport in Poland? Why?
I don’t think we have a particular sport that we really like. Everybody used to love ski jump, then volleyball and nowadays I think it is the cross-country skiing. Popularity comes with the names of winners.
Do you like travelling? Why? Why not?
I do. Meeting new people, sightseeing, getting to know different cultures – XXI century is full of possibilities. Imagine going to Tibet a hundred years ago – only a few could and would do it. Now you take a train, or a plane and that’s it. I love travelling.
Do you use public transport? Do you like it?
In everyday situations I rarely do, I cycle. Things change in the summer. I travel a lot by trains, buses and sometimes planes. I like travelling to remote places during my holidays.
Where did you spend your last holidays? Did you like it?
Last year I went to the UK and I completely fell for it. There are so many interesting places to see, the diversity of the society is astonishing. Scots, Irish, Welsh and English man – they are completely different, each with a separate history, culture and accent. Terrific!
Where are you going to spend your summer holidays?
This year we are going to go to Italy. I’ve never been there before.
When was the last time you went to the doctor? Why?
I can’t remember exactly, but I think it was more than half a year ago. I caught a very bad cold.
Have you ever tried extreme sports? What kind? Would you like to?
I did bungee jumping a couple of times. I think everybody should try it. It’s amazing.
What is more useful: a laptop computer or a mobile phone?
Modern mobiles, smartphones, are enough as means of communication; text messages, voice calls, e-mail, internet access – they have it all. I think, that unless you are a businessman a good smartphone is enough.
Have you ever had a broken arm or leg? How did it happen?
It happened quite a few times. Mountain biking, my favourite sport, is quite demanding and dangerous. I fractured my wrist at least four times.
What is the safest kind of transport? Why do you think so?
Statistics show that flying is the safest mean of transport. It is also the fastest, but at the same time the dullest of them all.
Do you like travelling alone or with a lot of friends? Why?
I’m not a loner type, I feel much better with my friends around. Journeys to remote places are much safer and funnier with them than without.
What do you use the Internet for?
I use it for communication and as a source of information. Having friends all over the world is possible only thanks to the internet.
Do you think you could live a week without a mobile phone? Why? Why not?
Yes, I could. Sometimes I do. There are many places I have visited and stayed for a week or two where there was no carrier. But then again, my friends were there with me! It would have been much more difficult if I had been there on my own.
What do you usually do then you have a cold?
I read books. I love reading.
Would you like to be a scientist? Why? Why not?
No. Scientists are too narrow-minded and prefer a well organised life. That is just not me!
Which Polish city would you recommend visiting? Why?
Hm… For big city lovers Cracow is the only choice. The number of museums and other places of interest is endless there. If you prefer nature, adventure and a bit of danger then Zakopane is a good starting point.
Which holidays do you remember the most? Why?
My trip to Tibet three years ago. We travelled across China in a rented jeep. That country is absolutely astonishing. They didn’t let us through to Tibet, so we had to hide in a bus’s trunk to cross the border. What a journey!
Do you think you could live a week without an access to the Internet? Why? Why not?
Yes, I could. Sometimes I do. There were many places I’ve been to where there was no internet access. It does, though, take a lot of time to write back to all those e-mails you get when you are off-line for such a long time!
Which do you prefer, planning your holiday in advance or just going and having fun?
The latter. Having everything planned in advance sounds so boring. I never do that.
How do you keep fit?
I cycle a lot and generally I live an active life. I travel a lot. I don’t like sitting in front of the TV, eating chips or things like that.
What is your favourite holiday accommodation and why?
A camp. There is nothing like sleeping in a tent by camp fire.
What do you do to reduce stress in your life?
I smile and laugh a lot. I don’t take life too seriously and never plan ahead.
When did you get your first mobile phone? Did you like it?
It was ages ago, in 1998. It was much bigger, heavier and less complicated than the ones you can buy now. Still, it did what it was meant to do – I could make calls and send text messages. Now things are different. A mobile is more like a personal communicator.
If you could go on holiday today where would you go?
Australia. Simply because when we have winter in Poland, they have summer! 35 Celsius!
