Teenage emotional roller coaster
Being a teenager isn't easy. There are a lot of emotional and physical changes that are all a natural part of growing up, but they can make life difficult.
Often teachers and parents don’t understand teenagers, especially their problems of their or changes in mood. It’s difficult for teenagers to talk about their feelings. They often think that they’re the only person who feels the way they do. It helps to know that all teenagers have similar problems. Teenagers find that at the same time as they are changing emotionally, their bodies are growing and changing. Some teenagers are as tall as or taller than adults, but they can often still feel like children. They worry about their physical appearance and what their friends think about them and they don’t always know what to do or say.
I definitely think life isn’t easy as a teenager. We have to grow up too quickly. Sometimes I think it’s really exciting and there are lots of opportunities. Other times I feel it’s quite frightening. I often feel unsociable, and want to stay in my bedroom. My mum tries to talk to me, but I don’t think that she will understand.
I love being a teenager. I like the independence. I can go shopping with my friends, go to the cinema and cafés. It’s great. Sometimes I get worried about things, but I always talk to my mum about them. She’s someone who always listens and makes me feel better. My family and my home are still important to me. Home is a place where I can really relax.
