Direct Speech adalah kalimat yang diucapkan langsung oleh pembicaranya.

Indirect Speech adalah kalimat yang dilaporkan seseorang kepada oranglain secara tidak langsung.

Terdapat perubahan to be, auxiliary dan keterangan waktu dalam penulisan indirect speech:
