Sometimes when my parents want to punish me, they turn off the Internet at home. Whenever this happens, I am completely lost. I cannot write to my friends. I cannot look up information for my school work. I cannot watch fun videos online. I can't even Skype my friend in England. If this is the effect of not having Internet for a few hours, then can you imagine what it would be like if there were not Internet in the whole world for a day?!
Everything in the world uses the Internet. Without it for example, there would be no news in the world. Reporters everywhere would not be able to send their news stories to their TV or radio stations or to their newspapers.
Banks would stop communicating. People couldn't take money out of their bank accounts, so they wouldn't have money to pay for things they need.
Most importantly, without the Internet, computers wouldn't be able to communicate with each other. Each computer in our government would be isolated from the others. Even if a military commander noticed that our country was in danger, he couldn't tell the other officers and our country couldn't defend itself.
I hope this will never happen. It could be very-very dangerous.
