Fabregas winning race to face Barcelona

Great news for Arsenal fans coming n this morning. After a scan on Cesc Fabregas’ knee revealed that, other than severe bruising, there was no further damage to the Arsenal captain, the Arsenal medical team are now confident that he will be okay to face his old club Barcelona in the Champions League match tomorrow night.

A final decision will be made after this mornings training session, when Wenger will also have had a chance to assess Abou Diaby, Andrei Arshavin and Samir Nasri, but it is expected that all of them will be available to play tomorrow.

Wenger took the time yesterday to praise Fabregas, and he thinks that he an even better player than ever this season. “I believe he is more relaxed,” Wenger said. “There is less tension in his finishing. You feel that before he wanted to force the chance and now he is more relaxed. “He has gained more physical power. You can see he resists much more the runs of his opponents and he is more powerful in his runs. These two ingredients make a big difference. But I believe the change in formation has had an impact as well. He has more freedom to join in now.”

Hopefully Cesc will have the chance to show just how good he is against Barcelona, and show the European Champions exactly what they are missing. If he scores a hat-trick then maybe the Barcelona fans will actually understand that he is not going to come back to them, ever!

We can all expect confirmation of the good news sometime this afternoon. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything.

Quite often there will be plenty of possession from Arsenal, but that hasn't always resulted in three points when we've played against the likes of United and Chelsea, who are quite content to let us have the ball for the majority of the match. Bergkamp says that the team need to develop a 'ruthless streak', akin to the famous 'Invincibles', and perfect that final ball in the opponent's third of the pitch. Dubbed 'God', or the Iceman during his time at Arsenal, Bergkamp said: "I've been watching Arsenal this season and the football is fantastic. They can cut through defences no problem, so I can't agree with people who say 'this is not the way to win. "They just need to be able to finish it off. You have to shoot, to want to score goals no matter how. Just score, you can't be afraid to miss. "Arsenal always have more possession of the ball than the opponent. You don't see often a bad pass in the midfield. But in the final third, often it's a bad decision. That's so strange," added the Dutchman who won three league titles and four FA Cups in his 11 years with the Gunners, before retiring after the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in 2006. "In my day, we knew that with our style we could hurt teams and win trophies too. But we did it our way, with the positional game, passing, movement. "Arsène Wenger's idea is not only to play good football. It's to play good football to win."
